COBRA Subsidy Expires with Congress Still Debating an Extension

On June 1, Congress allowed the federal subsidy program for COBRA recipients to expire. The program provided individuals who involuntarily lost their employer-sponsored health insurance benefits through a layoff or a reduction of hours during this economic downturn with a 15-month 65% subsidy of their COBRA health insurance premiums.
